April Showers bring May flowers.
Farmers like rain, plants like rain, people—hmm, for many, not so much. With rain, clothing gets wet, shoes get damp, hairstyles can fizzle and flop, and overcast skies can make the mood a bit dreary. But, as the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. What a wonderful image. Water contributes to making things beautiful.
Water is known for its cleansing and nourishing properties. These are two things we all need in our lives. Water helps us to get rid of the day’s dirt and become refreshed on the outside. Drinking water helps to flush out our insides and hydrate us for good health. As we consider these purposes of water, when it rains, we can welcome it, celebrate how it makes us, and our environment beautiful. I am grateful that God blesses all creation with the water we need.
I’d like to invite you to join me in a May Water Challenge.
Please choose one or more ways to participate for the rest of the month of May.
Challenge 1: Increase Your Water Intake for the Month of May. If you are not getting in the recommended 8-11 cups a day for women or 12-15 cups for men, increase your water intake this month. (These amounts may vary based on the amount of exercise, age, or doctor’s recommendations, so do what is right for you.)
Also, whether you are meeting your goal or increasing your water intake to meet the recommended goal, you can do it with others. Invite church members to share in a glass of water with you at events and times of fellowship. For those who are not part of Cornerstone, tell them about our challenge and invite them to join us in drinking more water this month, in celebration of it being a gift from God to cleanse and nourish both plants (May flowers) and people. You can enjoy a cup of water together as you talk on the phone or visit. Be creative.
Challenge 2: Water Thankfulness Challenge: Give God thanks for the water that He gives that nourishes people and plants when you see nature, especially flowers, and rain. Pray for the rains needed to help crops and flowers grow, with thanksgiving that God hears your prayers, in Jesus’ name.
Challenge 3: Help Others Get Water Challenge. For the month of May, bring in coins or dollars to help bring water to a village in Africa that is desperate for a water well and put it in an offering envelope marked “Water-Well.” There are many who still do not have access to clean water where they live. We can make a difference. Also, if you also want a more local opportunity, consider getting a pallet of water for your car and giving water away to those who are on the streets in need of assistance. Offering a bottle of water will not solve all their problems, but it will help to solve one—inner health and hydration that water brings.
May we bless the Lord for the wonderful gift of water this month for its good purposes; and let us focus on drinking healthy amounts, encouraging others to join us, and helping others have access to drinking water, in Jesus’ name.
God bless you, and God bless us all!

Also, please join me in our all-church Bible Study Class during the month of June. Signups are on the table near the activity boards in the Narthex near the food cart. Please sign up this week so that we can settle on the days and times it will be offered. I am willing to offer daytime and evening classes that best meet people’s schedules so let me know what works best for you and then we will have an orientation so that we can settle on dates, and you can learn more about this unique study. This is for information, transformation, and I’m asking for documentation on its effectiveness from participants.
We will have an orientation about the study!
